Government is totally committed to protect every religion & race - President

 

While being the guardian of Buddhism, I am also totally committed to protect every religion in the country, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The President was speaking at the closing ceremony of Piriven Pratibha 2014, at Keragala Padmawathi Piriwena, yesterday (Feb. 24).

Although some political parties point a wrong picture about us, this is a government which respects every religion and race in Sri Lanka, the President added.

The President pointed out the importance for Buddhist monks to gain knowledge of information technology. He also mentioned that the monks should be equipped with the knowledge of Buddhism and other subjects as well.

President recalled that the country was gifted with a great cultural heritage owing to immense talents of the Buddhist monks of the past.

President commended the service of the Keragala Padmawathi Piriwena which since ancient times a renewed pirivena education institution with thousands of Buddhist monks. He lauded its mission of pirivena education.
