No decision to ban Facebook in Sri Lanka - President

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday (25)  the Government had not taken any decision to block Facebook in Sri Lanka. He made this comment amidst rumors that the Government is to ban Facebook in Sri Lanka.

In a series of tweets, he said, ‘the Government is actually working on promoting the safe use of social media not trying to ban it.’

He also tweeted, ‘We want people to understand social media's powerful advantages as well as its potential dangers, especially when children use it’.

‘For a Government that has always promoted ICT,  we have no intention on banning social media in this country’, the President further said.

‘We pioneered taking computer literacy to the rural communities through the 'Nenasala' programme,’ he added.
