Grave dug by LTTE to conceal civiliansí bodies


A resident of Pudukuduiruppu in a statement to the police has claimed that the grave found in his area was dug by the LTTE to conceal the bodies of civilians it killed to prevent an uprising.

This witness identified as Gopal Kodiswaran in his statement to Pudukuduiruppu Police said LTTE cadres brought several bodies of civilians in a tractor and buried them in the area in February 2009.

According to Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana, the witness has claimed that these skeletons were of civilians killed by the LTTE terrorists for defying their orders.

Gopal in his statement said that an officer of the LTTE Police Unit, named Kunaraj told him that these bodies of civilians were dumped at the location. Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said investigations are ongoing to ascertain if Kunaraj, a resident of Palai, is alive or not.

The Army Spokesman Ruwan Wanigasooriya on March 02, releasing a statement on skeletal remains found in Udayarkattu area in Mullative, said that the LTTE was known to hide dead bodies to prevent civilian uprisings and to maintain cadresí morale. He stated the skeletal remains found recently near a former LTTE held area in Udayarkattu could very well be such dead, buried secretly.
