Those who dishonored sacred tooth relic are now questioning of the religious harmony - President


The people who placed the gallows in front of the temple of tooth relic to dishonor the sacred tooth relic are now questioning of the religious harmony from us, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Those who executed death penalty to the people over 16 years are today speaking about so called human rights violations in Sri Lanka, the President added. President was referring to the arbitrary executions conducted during the colonial era.

The President was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the prison school in Homagama on March 21.

Sunitha Vidyalaya, the first school for the prisoners has been constructed under the Mahindodaya school concept.

Those who did faults should not be kept in the prison as criminals forever. They should be rehabilitated and re-integrated to the society, President stated. When they are re-integrated, their talents should be a resource for the country. And these talents should be a blessing for the future of their children, President said.

The President recalled that the Government rehabilitated even the suicide bombers and re-integrated them to the society.
