President at New Year oil anointing ceremony

 

The oil anointing ceremony to mark the Sinhala and Tamil New Year was held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Ganemulla Kossinna Yatawatta Rajamaha Viharaya at the auspicious time of 11.16 am yesterday (April 16). Viharadhipati Ven. Thorapitiye Ananda Chief Sanghanayake Thera of the Siyane Korale and Ven. Udugampola Gunananda Thera officiated at the ceremony organised by the Indigenous Medicine Ministry with the participation of a large number of residents in the area.

The ceremony began with Viharadhipati Ven. Thorapitiye Ananda Chief Sanghanayake thera anointing President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the auspicious time of 11.16 am. Ven. Ananda Chief Sanghanayake thera also presented a special memento to President Mahinda Rajapaksa to mark his visit to the Yatawatta Raja Maha Viharaya.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa was accorded a rousing welcome by the large crowd on his arrival at the temple.

Indigenous Medicine Deputy Minister Pandu Bandaranayake, Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardene Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunge, Provincial Health Minister Ranjith Somawansa, Provincial Council member Sunil Wijeratne and several other local Councilors were also present on the occasion.
