President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the newly constructed building complex of the Management and Commerce Faulty of the South Eastern University in Oluvil, yesterday (20). The new building complex has been constructed at a cost of 260 million rupees.
Thereafter the President declared open the Ashraff Memorial Library Complex named after the founder of the Eastern University, late leader of the Muslim Congress M.H.M. Ashroff at the University. The building has cost 200 million rupees. The President was also presented with the first membership card of the Ashroff Memorial Library.
The President, after inspecting the Museum built adjacent to the library which depicts traditional cultural values, engaged in a friendly conversation with the students.
Senior Minister P.Dayarathna, Ministers S.B.Dissanayake, A.L.M.Athaulla, Rauf Hakeem, Eastern Province Governor Rear Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama, Chief Minister Abdul Najeed Majeed, University Grants Commission Chairperson, Ksanika Hirimburegama, and Vice Chancellor Dr. S.M. Mohamed Ismail were among those present at the occasion.
In addition, the President declared open new buildings at Eastern University in Vantharumoolai on Saturday (April 19). Accordingly, he declared open the main entrance of the university which was built at a cost of seven million rupees. The new building complex for the Arts and Culture faculties, built at a cost of 121 million rupees was also opened by the President.
President Rajapaksa also declared open the library building built in the premises of the university, at a cost of 171 million rupees.
The Government paid special attention to develop the Eastern University, after the defeat of terrorism. Accordingly, facilities of its Siddha Faculty were expanded in 2011 at a cost of Rs. 105 million, granted by the Indian Government.
Laboratory equipment, computers, reference books, anatomical models and charts, a bus and a jeep for the use in the Siddha Faculty were supplied on this regard.
