‘Seeking minimum of necessities & leading a simple life enrich ascetic qualities of Buddhist monks to provide necessary leadership to society’

The Most Venerable Rajakeeya Panditha Shasthrapathi Thirkunamale Ananda Mahanayake Thero was conferred with the office of Mahanayaka of the Amarapura Shri Dharmarakshitha Maha Nikaya at the Sri Vajiragnana Buddhist Center in Maharagama yesterday (04) under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

In his message of felicitation to the Thero the President said “It is my earnest wish that the most venerable Rajakeeya Panditha Shasthrapathi Thirkunamale Ananda Mahanayake Thera will be blessed with long life and strength through the noble Triple Gem to provide immense service for many years to come to the Sambuddha Sasana, to our Motherland and to the world”.

President Rajapaksa in his message pointed out that seeking the bare minimum of necessities and leading a simple life in keeping with the profound advice of the Buddha and would thereby enrich the ascetic qualities of their lives to provide the necessary leadership to the society.

The late Mahanayake Thero the Amarapura Shri Dharmarakshitha Maha Nikaya, Aggamahapanditha Most Venerable Madihe Pannaseeha Mahanayake Thera, who was known for his esteemed qualities of a Bodhisathva and the current chief incumbent of the Siri Vajiragnana Dharmayathanaya, Most Venerable Ampitiye Sri Rahula Nayaka Thera were instrumental in establishing the Siri Vajiragnana Dharmayathanaya for the purpose of contributing a erudite, disciplined Buddhist monks who could serve the country and nation and nurture the Sambuddha Sasanaya, the message added.

“I am happy to see this noble task being carried out widely and effectively both in this country and internationally,” he further said.
