President orders release of 29 Indian fishermen as a goodwill measure

President Mahinda Rajapaksa as a goodwill measure has yesterday ordered the release of 29 Indian fishermen arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy on Sunday while fishing in Sri Lankan waters.

“As a goodwill measure, President Rajapaksa orders the release, tomorrow morning, of 29 Indian fishermen,” President tweeted.

The Navy arrested the 29 fishermen from Tamil Nadu and seized their six fishing trawlers Sunday when they were engaged in fishing in Sri Lankan waters northwest of Thalaimannar.
