Refrain from espousing communal hatred

 

IGP N.K. Illangakoon urged the public not to be misguided by rumours and unsubstantiated stories. He also seeks the assistance of the public to ensure law and order in the area.

The IGP issuing a special media statement, stated that no Buddhist monk has been killed in the Aluthgama clash last night (June 16). He also confirmed that two deaths that occurred.

Meanwhile, a high level meeting was held at the AGA Office in Kalutara, with Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the chair to discuss the law and order situation. SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena, Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzie, Muslim representatives and key members of the Bodu Bala Sena were also present at the meeting.

Mass Communication Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella yesterday requested the media to behave in a responsible manner at this crucial time that would not jeopardize peaceful religious co-existence.

Meanwhile, the Government urged all media organizations to act responsibly when reporting incidents and news that could harm religious harmony and peace in the country.
