Gov. aims to reduce unemployment rate to 3.2 % by 2016

 

Senior Minister for International Monetary Cooperation and Deputy Finance and Planning Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama says the government's aim is to reduce the unemployment rate to 3.2 percent by 2016. According to government's statistics it was at 3.7 percent last year. Government has taken every possible measure to create more productive job opportunities in the country.

To fulfill the demand of the country private sector should be strengthened to create 30 percent of job opportunities. In response to a question raised by parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa in the parliament yesterday Minister Dr. Amunugama said many development projects have been implemented in the eastern province under the "Negenahira Navodaya" programme in order to create more job opportunities.
