President Mahinda Rajapaksa has decided to appoint a high-level panel to inquiry into the recent disturbances in certain parts of the country including Aluthgama.
“I will be appointing a high-level panel to inquire in to recent disturbances,” President Rajapaksa tweeted.
Speaking in Kandy he father said that strict legal action will be taken against any perpetrator, regardless of his or her status.
The President said the entire nation is faced with an unfortunate situation because all people in the country want reconciliation but some politicians in the country don't have the will for reconciliation which exists among the people.
Sri Lanka Police launched a special security network through-out the country Friday to prevent further communal clashes incited by false reports and rumors.
The police have arrested 55 people so far and remanded 35 of them for breaking law and order during the communal clashes that took place in Aluthgama and Beruwala areas recently.
