President Mahinda Rajapaksa felicitated Venerable Dr Delduwe Gnanasumana Nayake Thera, Chief Incumbent of Sridharma Viharaya and Principal of the Vishvashakti Niketanaya, Kalapaluwawa, Rajagiriya who completed 50 years in the Sangha.
Speaking at the felicitation ceremony at the Temple Trees today (June 25), Ven Dr Kamburugamuwe Wajira Nayaka Thera said that Ven Gnanasumana, a brilliant scholar who obtained the highest grades in Pali, Sinhala and Sanskrit at the Pracheena Examination and higher studies at the University of Peradeniya served the Buddha Sasana through his Vishva Shakthi concept. He has provided relief to many in Sri Lanka and abroad through Vishwa Shakthi, Ven Dr Wajira Thero said.
Ven Gnanasumana Thero said that he had not seen any era in Sri Lanka as successful as the governing period of President Rajapaksa. He blessed the President who completed the war and is working towards the development of the country.
Participating at the ceremony, Ms Noriko Sakamoto, head of the Japanese delegation, thanked the President for ending the period of terror in Sri Lanka and said she would assist the environment protection campaign in Sri Lanka.
Ven matale Kusaladhamma Anunayake Thero and Ven Walpola Piyananda Thero, Sanghanayake of America also participated at the ceremony.
