The government under the President Mahinda Rajapaksa's instructions has allocated Rs. 200 million to reconstruct the properties and businesses that were damaged during the clashes Aluthgama and Beruwala.
Minister of Resettlement Gunarathna Weerakoon speaking to media said speedy measures are being taken to reconstruct the damaged property in the two towns and the government has set aside Rs. 200 million for this purpose.
Out of the allocated funds Rs. 150 million will be been handed over to the Army as the Army is entrusted with the rebuilding. The remaining Rs. 50 million rupees will be given to the Kalutara District Secretary.
President Rajapaksa who visited the area on June 18 soon after his return from Bolivia directed Army Commander Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake to take proper stock of all property damage as soon as possible and launch a mechanism to get all those repairs done at state expense, using the skills of tri-service personnel.
Commander of the Western Security forces Major General Ubhaya Medawela said at a media briefing at the Kalutara District secretariat that the reconstruction will be commenced today.
