President visits Aluthgama and Beruwala

Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday had an extensive tour to  Aluthgama and Beruwala to observe the progress of the work carried out by the Army to repair and restore the properties damaged during the clashes between two groups.

Rebuilding and renovating areas affected by the recent clashes in Aluthgama and Beruwala are successfully in progress at present under guidance of Sri Lanka Army, the President observed.

During the inspection tour last evening, the President met Sinhala and Muslim communities in Pathirajawela, Dharga Town, Warapitiya, Seenawatta, Aluthgama and several other areas.

Ministers Rajitha Senaratne and Rohitha Abeygunawardena and Major General Ubhaya Medawela accompanied the President in the tour.

President also visited the Kande Viharaya in Aluthgama and had a discussion with the chief incumbent Venerable Batuwanhene Buddharakkitha Thero. He also had talks with the devotees who had gathered to the temple at the time.

The President, who just returned from a four-day official visit to The Maldives and Seychelles, yesterday chaired a special workshop of all ministers, MPs and Provincial Council members representing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) in Beruwala.

The day-long workshop was held to discuss the new development projects the government has planned to start in the future and advise the people's representatives about the ways the government programs are taken to the people.
