President Mahinda Rajapaksa allocated Rs. 3,000 million from the Budget 2014 to develop fisheries harbours and anchor lodges. These fund will also be utilized to build new fisheries harbours and anchor lodges, said Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne.
Arrangements have been made to commence the construction of the fishery harbour in Kalametiya and anchor lodge in Kaikawala, he said. “We decided to commence the construction of the Kaikawala anchor lodge after we received the report of the feasibility study. Accordingly, we allocated Rs. 200 million for the construction activities of the Kaikawala anchor lodge,” the minister said. “We are also making arrangements to fulfill all needs and wants in all fisheries harbours and anchor lodges and equip them with all modern facilities.
We hope to develop all fisheries harbours, anchor lodges and fish landing centres Island wide to uplift the fisheries industry and measures are in place to complete the construction of all fisheries harbours by 2015,” he said.
