Second phase of Dengue crackdown in WP from tomorrow

The second stage of the programme to crackdown on dengue within the Western Province will be launched for three days with effect from tomorrow.

It has been emphasized that the law will be strictly enforced against those who are maintaining their houses and home gardens in a manner supporting breeding grounds for mosquito.

The Presidential Dengue Task Force has been established by state institutions including the Armed Forces and the Police.

Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala said that 35 percent of the locations examined within the Western Province under the first stage were found to be centres conducive for the breeding of mosquitoes. Further expressing views at a news conference organized at the Health Education Bureau, Dr. Mahipala said that the highest number of dengue patients had been reported from the Western Province.

Brigadier Haren Perera pointed out that more than 900 members of the Armed forces were involved in the dengue crackdown programme within the Western Province.
