Netherlands commends Lanka’s economic progress

Dutch Vice-Minister for Foreign Trade Simon J.H. Smits commends Sri Lanka on its post-war economic progress. He said Sri Lanka can be compared to a country within the Eurozone.

The Dutch Vice Minister for Foreign Trade is leading a top trade delegation to Sri Lanka. Addressing journalists, he said that considering the growth figures, the inflation, and the macroeconomic indicators, he is getting a bit jealous. He said he thinks that some of the indicators could probably make Sri Lanka join the Eurozone.

Sri Lanka is doing quite a lot better than many of their colleagues, including themselves, in the Eurozone. As such he asserted that he is pretty optimistic. The delegation will be in the island until Thursday the 17th to explore possibilities of investment in Sri Lanka for investors from the Netherlands.

The delegation will focus special attention on water, health, agriculture and trade. The Netherlands Vice Minister and the delegation are due to hold discussions with several senior Government officials and leading entrepreneurs during their stay in the island.
