The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) states that no Sri Lankan migrant in Israel has been harmed in the ongoing conflict.
Stating this Spokesman for the Bureau, Mangala Randeniya said over 7000 Sri Lankan migrants are working in Israel and about 85 percent of them are females. Many of them are working in the health sector.
He said that Minister Dilan Perera has requested the Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel to keep alert on Sri Lankan employees and in case of an emergency the Embassy will take steps for their security.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs in Colombo expressed concern over the clashes in Gaza Stripe. The Ministry urged all parties to act with restraint.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa also telephoned President Mohammed Abbas to find out details about latest developments in Gaza Stripe. When Presidnt Abbas briefed him on the civilian casualties in Gaza strip in Palestine, President Rajapaksa expressed his concern about civilian deaths.
During the last seven days of Israeli attacks, 150 Palestine civilians died and another 1000 received injuries.
