Troops attend to winds-affected schools & offices

 

Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) troops responded to the disaster emergencies, taking place in Badulla and Nuwara Eliya Districts due to gale winds that swept across several parts of the island and immediately attended to repairs and restorations in affected state buildings in both districts.

Gale winds and stormy weather conditions damaged Haldummulla Zonal Educational Office, Haldummulla Divisional Secretariat, Haldummulla Walhaputenna Vidyalaya, Ambagahaduwa Presidentís College, Perawella Vidyalaya, Keppetipola Vidyalaya and Welimada Medawela Primary School in Badulla District and a few other schools, including Walapane Wewathenna Vidyalaya, Udupussellawa St Margret Vidyalaya and Ragala Vidyalaya in Nuwara Eliya District, forcing the closure of those officers and schools until the situation returned to normal.

More than a three-digit number troops, attached to 6 Gemunu Watch Battalion and 3 (v) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Battalion on the directions of Major General A.M Perera, Commander, SFHQ-C attended to those repairs and renovations within hours, enabling all of them to commence work again.

Principals, Divisional Secretaries and state officials extended their gratitude to the Army for their speedy remedial actions.
