President Abolishes Taxes for Financial Institutions


President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday decided to abolish taxes on state / private banks, financial institutions employees' perks imposed by Special Gazette 1857/8 following a meeting with representatives of the Bank of Ceylon Employees' Union at Temple Trees yesterday (July 21).

With this decision the tax imposed on the interest for housing loans, distress loans, vehicle loans, overtime allowances of employees of private and public banks, financial institutions, insurance institutions, etc. will be removed.

Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Acting Secretary to the President and President's Chief of Staff Gamini Sedara Senarath, Bank of Ceylon Employees' Union president A K Bandara, vice president Nishantha Samarasinghe, secretary Ashoka Darmasiri and other members were also present on the occasion.
