All NGOs should register and indicate scope of activities - PM

Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne said that under the laws of this country all non government organizations should be registered.

While registering they should also clearly indicate the activities they will be carrying out. They cannot deviate from their stated objectives and they also cannot act contrary to the laws of this country. This situation is applicable to all non governmental organizations in this country, he said.

The Prime Minister emphasized no activities against the country can be permitted and it is the responsibility of the government to safeguard the country and its territory. He made these comments in response to a question raised in parliament yesterday (23) by the opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe.
