Over 2, 000 buses to strengthen SLTB

 

Two thousand and two hundred (2,200) new buses will be added to the fleet further strengthening the services of the Sri Lanka Transport Board.

Minister Kumara Welgama, addressing a news briefing at the Head Office of the Transport Board in Narahenpita recently, revealed that 200 buses will be imported from India before the end of this month under the first stage. The Minister said that he requested 2,200 buses and that the Treasury promised to provide the buses it had pledged for five years. It will be making the payments for the 1000 buses that it is providing.

Payments for the remaining 1,200 buses will be made through the income earned by the SLTB. The Minister revealed that they would be receiving 200 buses before the end of this month. He said they will be receiving a total of 300 buses in July, 500 in August, 500 in September, 700 in October and 200 buses in November.

He added that by December all buses would have been received.
