Sri Lanka Friday conveyed condolences to the bereaved families of the passengers and crew on the Air Algerie flight that was found crashed in Mali early Thursday.
Sri Lankan said it is with "shock and deep sorrow" that Sri Lanka learnt of the tragedy involving the Air Algerie Flight AH 5017 that resulted in the loss of 116 innocent lives.
Flight 5017 was carrying 110 passengers and six crew members when it departed Burkina Faso for Algeria.
"The Government together with the people of Sri Lanka convey heartfelt condolences to the families of the passengers and crew onboard the flight, and stand in solidarity with those nations who lost their citizens on this ill-fated journey," the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
"In this hour of anguish and pain, the thoughts and prayers of the people of Sri Lanka are with the affected families and wish they find the strength to overcome their unimaginable loss."
