President felicitates Ven Ambewela Pannasara Nayake Thero, recipient of Myanmar honours


President Mahinda Rajapaksa felicitated Ven Ambewela Pannasara Nayake Thero, who was conferred the title ‘Aggamaha Saddhamma Jyothika Daja’ from the Government of Myanmar at the Temple Trees yesterday (August 7). Ven Pannasara Thero, Chief Incumbent of the Sri Subadrarama Vihare in Keppitipola and the Bauddhaloka Maha Vihare at Suwarapola in Piliyandala was earlier conferred the title honors from Myanmar was appointed Mahanayake of the Uva Syamawansika Maha Nikaya.

Myanmar conferred the honor to Ven Pannasara Nayake Thero for his relentless crusade to propagate teachings of the Buddha. He was born in Ambewela, Badulla and became the first ever Buddhist monk to be a university graduate from Uva Province.

Chancellor of Srijayewardenapura University, Ven Dr Bellanwila Wimalaratana Anunanayake Thero delivered a sermon after President Rajapaksa felicitated Ven. Ambewela Pannasara Thera. Ven Thirukunamale Ananda Mahanayake Thero of Amarapura Sridhammarakshitha Nikaye, Principal of Vidyodaya Pirivena, Ven Panditha Balangoda Sobhitha Thero, Prime Minister D M Jayaratne and Minister Gamini Lokuge were also present at this felicitation ceremony.
