The visiting Zhongshan Province delegates from China and Sri Lanka signed four agreements to promote Electronic and Apparels sectors between Zhongshan and Sri Lanka yesterday (Aug. 12).

The four contracts were signed at a business matchmaking session at the Sri Lanka, Zhongshan Trade and Investment Forum held in Colombo yesterday. The four companies that signed the agreements from Sri Lanka were, Singer Sri Lanka PLC, (two agreements) Capital Apparels Pvt. Ltd and WILMAX Enterprises.

The delegation from Zhongshan included 35 potential investors representing diverse business entities that were looking to conduct Business Matchmaking initiatives.

The Mayor of the city of Zhongshan, China, Chen Liangxian said, “This forum will allow us to renew our friendship and seek common development and improve bilateral and economic operations between our two countries.”
“Our aim is to use Colombo as a platform for Zhongshan manufactured products to be marketed not only in Sri Lanka but in other South Asian regions as well.”

“Both countries will benefit in terms of marketing native goods and this will not only become an advantage for Zhongshan commodities,” he added.

The city of Zhongshan, with their initiative to expand business relations in Sri Lanka are also on the lookout for business opportunities in China where Sri Lankan brands such as Ceylon Tea and agricultural and aquatic commodities would attract the Chinese market.

“The Investor Forum which was instigated by the Friendship Association shows the great potential in terms of signifying the importance of people to people business relations combined with a far-sighted vision where the end beneficiaries are people themselves,” said Deputy Minister of Investment Promotions Faiszer Mustapha.

“The forum was the result of a tour by Sri Lanka team last year. “Through the Board of Investments (BOI), investors from Zhongshan will receive incentives such as 100% duty free access. The BOI is also on the works of launching its latest website where Chinese translation will also be available.”
