“Today the gem and jewellery industry is an important segment of the Sri Lankan economy and it has vast potential for further expansion, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his special message for the Annual General Meeting of Sri Lanka Jeweller’s Association held in Colombo yesterday (Aug 17).
“This industry is now highly modernized and SriLankan jewellers have improved and upgraded their products to suit international requirements. Similarly, it is essential to upgrade the skills in the industry to be in line with the advancement of technology in this industry, which has huge employment potential for our young men and women, with a keen interest in new technology” President stated in his message.
The Annual General Meeting of Sri Lanka Jeweler’s Association has been held for the 22nd year, under the patronage of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Susil Premajayantha said that the Government is taking measures to set up an international standard laboratory for the jewelry industry before the end of this year.
The President handed over the excellence awards to the members of the Association. Chairman of the Association K. Radha Krishnan presented the President with the Souvenir of the Sri Lanka Jewellers Association and a memento.
