“Nanasala” wins Bill & Melinda Gates awarded for best IT project


The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation presented its 2014 Access to Learning Award of $1 million to the e-Library Nenasala Program (eLNP), in recognition of its work to provide free access to computers and the Internet to underserved Sri Lankans living in remote and rural areas.

Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya received the award last night (Aug 18), which has been presented in recognition of the e-Library Nenasala Program (eLNP) being implemented on a concept by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, to and build hundreds of computer centers all over the country in order to increase digital literacy.

The award ceremony was held in the city of Leon in France at the world's library and information conference.

The award is named as “Bill Gate and Melinda Award” in honour of the owner of the Microsoft Company Bill Gates and his wife.
