Government allocated Rs. 1.38 billion for Northern Province this year


The government has allocated Rs. 1.385 billion for the development in the Northern Province this year and will provide another Rs. 6 billion next year, the Governor of the Northern Province GA Chandrasiri said yesterday.

Minister Chandrasiri briefed the media on the development of the Province when he handed over new vehicles worth Rs. 16 million to the Chief Minister and Health Minister of the Northern Province at the Governor's Secretariat on 09th September 2014.

The keys for the vehicles were handed over to the respective Ministries' Secretaries by the Governor. Vehicles for the Chairman and other ministers were already handed over on 05th July 2014.

He noted that although the government has allocated Rs, 1.385 billion, the Northern Provincial Council has so far spent only Rs. 380 million.

The Secretary of the Provincial Council has been advised for the second time to use these funds effectively for the development activities, he said.

Chief Secretary of the Northern Provincial Council Mrs. R.Wijialudchumi and Secretary to the Governor L.Ilaangovan were also present at the event.
