I would never stop serving the public

Never neglect development for people - President

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said he would not stop serving the public and will never neglect development activities which are meant for the people.

The President stressed that no one in the Government is ready to take the people for a ride to achieve their petty objectives.

Those who were caught dashing children on mango trees are making baseless allegations against the Government, he said.

The President was addressing the final UPFA rally at the Wellawaya Public grounds yesterday (Sep. 17).

The Rajapaksas did not make a fast buck on the pretext of war, but they really fought the war democratically untill its conclusion, President Rajapaksa said.

The President said that the Rajapaksas could fight any type of war in a democratic manner to its conclusion.

There are elements who have been making money on the pretext of conducting a war for more than 28 years.

The President said that the Government under his leadership prevented them from making money out of the war by wiping out terrorism from the country.

He said that the people affected by the drought throughout the country were given subsidies. The people of Uva who were badly affected by the severe drought were also given this subsidy, he said.

He said that some elements lost their most lucrative avenue of business of making money out of the war with the eradication of terrorism by the Government. President Rajapaksa said that none of the Rajapaksas would have had to enter Parliament, if they did politics by bribing the people of the Moneragala and Hambantota Districts. “We have ended the era of bribing the people for political gain,” he said.

President Rajapaksa said that he was always taking practical decisions. He said that decisions were not taken by him from air-conditioned rooms.

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, a large number of Ministers including Ministers Wimal Weerawansa, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Jagath Pushpakumara, Mahinda Amaraweera and Vijith Vijithamuni de Soysa were present.
