Sri Lanka's ruling party United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) claimed victory in the Uva Provincial Council elections held on Saturday (Sept 20).
The ruling party won both Badulla and Monaragala districts.
The UPFA gained 17 seats of the 32-member Council while the UNP won 13 seats and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), won 2 seats. The UPFA will have 19 seats in the Council with the two bonus seats.
In Badulla district UPFA gained 9 seats in the Council while UNP won 8 seats and the JVP secured one seat.
In Monaragala district the UPFA gained 8 seats and the UNP won 5 seats while the JVP got one seat.
