Electricity bills 25% reduction next week

Power and Energy Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said that electricity rates of all domestic consumers would be reduced by 25 percent as per the instructions given by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the relevant gazette notification would be released within next week.

The Minister said the officials of Ministries of Finance, Power and Energy and the Ceylon Electricity Board were preparing the new tariff structure so that the reduced rates would be reflected in the consumers’ bills from next month.

The 25 percent reduction would come into effect from September 16th onwards, Minister Wanniarachchi added.
