Rebuilt Jaffna Railway Station and the railroad will be opened on October 13 by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

It is set to begin operations after 23 years of disuse.

In line with the opening of the Railway Station, the first train will lead from Palei to Jaffna. Afterward, it will operate daily, providing transport facilities to the people in the region.

With the accomplishment of this project Northern commuters will be able to travel to rest of the country more conveniently.

Bank of Ceylon (BoC) involved itself in the “Uthuru Mithuru” project by making a significant contribution in rebuilding the largest railway station in the northern railway line.

BoC has installed an ATM within the station premises.

Reopening of the Jaffna Railway station will pave way for a new economic and social awakening by helping to overcome the infrastructure and livelihood barriers to developing the socio-economic setting of the region.
