Sri Lanka Navy assists repatriation of another 40 Indian fishermen


Sri Lanka Navy Saturday escorted 40 Tamil Nadu fishermen, who were released from Sri Lankan custody recently, and handed them over to the Indian Coast Guard at the International Maritime Boundary Line off Kankasanthurai in Jaffna peninsula.

A Naval Patrol Craft attached to Northern Naval Command along with Sri Lanka Coast Guard Vessel CG 49 handed over the 40 fishermen to the Indian Coast Guard Ship "Rajtharang" at the IMBL in the seas off Kankasanthurai on 04th October 2014, the Navy said.

The Sri Lankan Navy handed over 36 of the 76 fishermen to the Indian Coast Guard on 02 October at the IMBL off Thalaimannar.
The Navy arrested the Indian fishermen when they were illegally fishing near Katchatheevu on September 9 and 11.
