A high level Sri Lankan parliamentary delegation will attend the 131st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva from 12-16 October.
The Sri Lankan delegation will include top government Ministers including the Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Chandima Weerakkody told Lankapuvath.
Over 650 Parliamentarians from more than 120 member states of the 163-member organization have so far will registered to attend the 131st Assembly. Over 75 Speakers and Deputy Speakers of Parliament are among the attendees.
During the five -day event the 131st Assembly of the IPU will elect a President and a Vice-President. The new President will take over from Abdelwahad Radi, who ends his three-year mandate at the end of the event.
The general debate at the 131st Assembly will focus on "Achieving gender equality, ending violence against women"
