Human Rights Commission and Missing Persons commission to meet today


The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) and the members of the Presidential Commission to Investigate into Complains Regarding Missing Persons will meet today to collaborate on the inquiries into the cases of missing and disappearances.

The HRCSL will meet the members of the Commission of inquiry investigating the alleged abduction or disappearances of persons resident in the North and East on 9th October 2014 at the Head Office of Human Rights Commission.

The discussion will focus on how to enhance the mandate of HRCSL with the Disappearance Commission as part of reconciliation process, the HRCSL said.

This is the second phase of the discussion which was held on 22nd July 2014 with senior officers and the secretary to Missing Persons commission.

This Missing Persons commission was appointed by the President on 12th August 2013 as a part of the implementation of recommendations of the Commission on Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation (LLRC).
