Comprehensive plan to prevent violence against women & child abuse - President

A comprehensive plan to prevent violence against women and also on child abuse has been formulated by the government, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

In the coming year Rs.700 million will be allocated for various programs under this comprehensive plan of action, he added.

According to international surveys Sri Lanka has been identified as one of the most child friendly nations in Asia, the President further said.

The President made these remarks at a meeting held between the President and the officers of the Child Development and Women’s Affairs at Temple Trees yesterday (Oct. 19).

More than 5000 officers including Early Childhood Development Officers, Women’s Development Officers, Counselling Officers, Child Protection and Psycho Social Officers were present.

The President pointed out that the present Government was able to carry out all these developments faster than any Asian country due to eradication of 30 year-long terrorism from the country.

He added that more benefits of the freedom and development will be reached to the General public in the future.
