The International Forum on ICT in Education will commence today (Oct. 20) in Cinnamon Grand, Colombo with the participation of the Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena.
The conference is a result of the introducing the concept of ‘Innovative ICT Classroom’. On an invitation made by Education Minister Gunawardena, a group of officials from the Korean ministry of education and Korean Telecom Company visited Sri Lanka in July 2014 and had some discussions followed by a feasibility study. Consequently they selected our country for introducing the concept of “Innovative ICT Classroom” which has been successfully established in the countries like Philippines, Colombia, Cambodia, Mongolia, Paraguay and Azerbaijan.
Accordingly, the arrangements have been made to hold the first international conference in Sri Lanka at Cinnamon Grand hotel, Colombo with the participation of information and communication technology professional of Sri Lanka, education authorities of the Republic of Korea, officers from the Telecom Company of Korea and the representatives from the countries where the “Innovative ICT Classroom” program was implemented in previous years, namely Philippines, Colombia, Cambodia, Mongolia, Paraguay and Azerbaijan.
The official handing over of the “Innovative ICT Classroom” constructed at the Mahinda Rajapaksa College at Pitipana, Homagama to Sri Lanka has also been scheduled to take place in the morning of 21st October 2014 with the patronage of Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena and the participation of the officers from the Ministry of Education of Korea and other distinguished guests.
It is expected to have a media conference on the same day based on this classroom. The effort taken by the Republic of Korea to uplift the infrastructure development for information and communication technology of the system of education in Sri Lanka will be a tremendous support for the utmost wellbeing of Sri Lankan children.
