SLFP-led governments always placed the trust in public service – President


All the governments led by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) always placed their trust the in public service President Mahinda Rajapaksa said.

“We always believe that the public sector could do a better service to the public than the private sector,” President said speaking at the distribution of motorcycles to public servants in Galle at the Board of Investment Grounds in Koggala yesterday. Over 6,000 public servants in Galle district were provided with motorcycles.

President said former Prime Ministers S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike and Sirimavo Bandaranaike had an enormous confidence in public servants for the service of the public.

“We increased the strength of the public service to 1.5 million with this belief in mind,” President added.

He further said that the present government filled the existing vacancies in all sectors and new employments avenues were created in the Public Sector for graduates passing out from universities.

The 2014 budget of the UPFA government proposed to provide motorcycles to field officers in the Public Service including Grama Niladharis and Midwives.
