Japanese & Thai vehicle exporters to use H’tota as transshipment port

 

The Japanese and Thai reconditioned vehicle exporters are willing to send vehicles to Hambantota Mahinda Rajapaksa Sea Port for transshipment, Highways, Ports and Shipping (Project) Minister Rohitha Abegunawardena said.

He said the Associations of Reconditioned Vehicle Exporters in Japan and Thailand visited the Hambantota Sea Port to see for themselves the facilities available there for vehicle transshipment.

The Minister said that in 2011 the Colombo Port transshipped only 547 vehicles and the Hambantota Sea Port up till now has transshipped nearly 150,000 vehicles.

The Minister said that the vehicle transshipment was limited only to Singapore and Dubai sea ports. He said that Japanese and Thai investors are willing to invest in Hambantota in various projects because of the sea port and the airport in Hambantota.
