President attended religious activities in Kataragama

 

President Rajapaksa joined in several religious programmes organized at the historic Kirivehera in Kataragama yesterday (Nov. 6).

The President who arrived at the Kirivehera Raja Maha Viharaya unveiled a special inscription which contains the historic background of Kirivehera. Thereafter, he inaugurated the permanent modernized lighting system at Kataragama Kirivehera.

The members of the Maha Sangha chanted Jaya Pirith and blessed the President, who engaged in religious observances after offering flowers to Kirivehera.

More than 100 members of the Maha Sangha including the Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter the Most Ven Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera were present at this occasion.

The President who conducted a special Kapruk Pooja to Kirivehera, presented to the Maha Sangha the Sannas Patra related to the inscription.

Later, the President visited the Mahasen Devale and joined in religious observances there.
