Upcountry Tamil party to support President at elections


A party representing up country plantation Tamils in Sri Lanka, Upcountry People’s Front (UPF) has pledged to support the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the upcoming presidential elections.

A UPF delegation including its leader, parliamentarian P Radhakrishnan met President Rajapaksa yesterday (Nov. 10) at Temple Trees and offered their full support to the President.

The group commended the President and the Government pointing out that the present Government is the only administration that worked for the benefit of the Indian-origin Tamils in the plantations to uplift their living standards.

The delegation also handed over to the President a list of requests from their constituents to further improve their living standards.
