President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday declared open another mega housing complex for the underserved communities in Colombo.
The newly constructed 'Sirimuthu Uyana' Housing Scheme situated at Bandaranayake Avenue in Colombo 14, was ceremonially declared open by the President in a grand ceremony last evening (Nov 21).
During the ceremony the President handed over the legal documents to the houses were also handed over to the beneficiaries.
The 12-storied Sirimuthu Uyana housing complex comprises 546 modern housing units. Each 450 square feet unit consists of living area, two bed rooms, pantry and a balcony with all amenities including proper sanitary facilities. Each unit is built at a cost of over Rs. 8 million.
In addition, elevators, spacious car parking facilities, community halls and public convenience places are some of the other facilities here. Simultaneously to the housing project measures have been taken to develop the adjacent road network in order to create easy access to the housing scheme.
Another Two housing projects namely "Laksanda sewana" in Kolonnawa and "Muwadora Uyana" consisting of 216 and 872 housing units respectively are to be opened by the President on December 01 and 08.
