Budget passed with a majority of 95 votes


The third reading of the 2015 Budget was passed in Parliament with a majority of 95 votes. 152 members voted in favour while 57 voted against.

The United National Party, Tamil National Alliance and Democratic National Alliance voted against the budget.

Former Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena and fellow Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) dissidents and the MPs of Jathika Hela Urumaya were absent during the vote.

The second reading of the US$ 14 billion budget for next year passed on 1 November with a majority of 100 votes as 157 members of the parliament voted in favor and 57 opposed.
