The cash prize and software awarded by the Bill Gates Foundation to the Nenasala Project was handed over to the President on Tuesday (Dec. 9).
Nenasala won the award for the year’s best Rural Information Technology Project, being adjudged first from among 150 projects of 110 countries worldwide. Accordingly Sri Lanka received the International Bill Gates Education Award and a cash award of one million US Dollars as well as software valued at 2.3 million US Dollars.
The handing over of this gift to the President took place at Temple Trees. President of the Asia Pacific Zone of Microsoft Seser Senudas mentioned that the Nenasala programme mooted under the guidance of the President has achieved significant growth in the local Information Communication Technology sector.
A group including Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya was present on this occasion.
