President congratulates Japanese PM on his election victory


President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday congratulated the Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe who won a snap vote to secure support for his "Abenomics" economic reforms.

In a Twitter message President Rajapaksa wished the Japanese PM for success in continuing "'Abenomics' reforms to steer Japan to greater heights."

"Congratulations @AbeShinzo on your re-election. Best wishes for continuing "Abenomics" reforms and steering Japan to greater heights. -MR," the President said.

Abe's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) retained its House of Representatives majority at the election and will govern with the Buddhist-backed Komeito party with a two-third majority after the parties won 325 seats out of 475.
