Decide whether to proceed forward or not by protecting country built with numerous sacrifices - President


President Mahinda Rajapaksa pointed out that the people should decide at this election whether to proceed forward or not by protecting the country which has been built by making numerous sacrifices.

He said that those people are signing fraudulent agreements. One has signed an agreement with TNA saying that Police and land powers in the 13th amendment would be given and the North and East would be merged.

The President emphasized that Police and land powers would not be given but discussions on amending the constitution could be done. The privatization of Banks was stopped. The President pointed out that the opposition wanted to introduce a Singapore model and reduce the public sector.

President Rajapaksa, addressing a public rally in Pothuvil on Saturday (Dec. 20) asked the people from Pothuvil to decide whether they would like to lose the identity of the nation by following a Singapore model.

The rally which was held with the participation of a massive crowd has been organized by Pothuvil SLFP organizer M.A. Abdul Majeed and Mr. Patalie Rohana Jayantha.

He emphasized that the Government would implement a model suitable to Sri Lanka and requested the people to join in to create a prosperous country for their children. Minister A.L.M. Athaulla, Parliamentarian Sriyani Wijewickrama, Eastern Province Chief Minister Najeeb A. Majeed and Former Parliamentarian A.S.M. Aswar were present at the rally.
