Postal services extends delivery of ballot papers till Jan 04 due to rainy weather

The Postal Service has extended the delivery of ballot papers until January 04 due to the prevailing adverse weather in the country, the Post Master General Rohana Abeyratna said.

The Postal Department is currently in the process of delivering the ballot papers to voters and it was scheduled to be finished by December 31. However, due to the rains and floods on the instructions of the Election Commissioner the Postal Department will deliver the ballot papers until January 04, the official said.

The Department plans a special delivery on Sunday January 04 to complete the distribution process. So far about 60 percent of the ballots have been delivered, the Post Master General said, adding that he is confident of completing the distribution on Sunday.
