President assures further strengthening of public service


President Mahinda Rajapaksa emphasized that whatever had been said on the Public Service, as the present Government strengthened it, will also maintain it continuously.

The President was addressing a public rally held yesterday (Jan. 05) at Pelwatte Junction in Passara with the participation of a massive gathering.

The President said that he would be recruiting 150 thousand who have passed the Advanced Level to the public service this time. What the Opposition candidate was saying that it is a heavy burden to the Treasury the recruitment of an unlimited number to the public service and that he would immediately halt the unrestricted recruitments.

Addressing the crowds, President Rajapaksa said everyone is duty bound to fulfill their responsibility on behalf of the motherland against the agreements signed for the betrayal of the country.

This public rally was organized by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Chief Organizer of Wellawaya Minister Jagath Pushpakumara. A group including Ministers Mahinda Amaraweera, Sumedha Jayasena and Lakshman Seneviratne, Uva Province Chief Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa, Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa joined the President in this rally.

Meanwhile, the President also joined in a function held at the Pothubaddara Raja Maha Viharaya at Buttala in Moneragala. The President participated in religious observance at the Viharaya and thereafter paid a courtesy call on its Chief Incumbent the Ven. Mahawela Sri Devarakkitha Jinarathana Thera and inquired into his wellbeing.

Residents in large numbers on hearing of the Presidentís arrival gathered at the Viharaya. The President did not forget to exchange pleasantries with the people who were eagerly waiting there to have a glimpse of him.

Thereafter, addressing them, the President pointed out that the patriots of Uva Wellassa as in the past took the forefront against conspiracies of imperialists.
