Sri Lanka's newly elected President Maithripala Sirisena along with other political leaders visited the Dalada Maligawa in Kandy this morning to pay homage.
The President accompanied by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe and former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaranatunga called on Chief Prelate of the Malwatte chapter Most Venerable Tibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera and the Chief Prelate of Asgiriya chapter Most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddharakkhitha Thero.
The Maha Sangha chanted Seth Pirith and invoked the blessings on the President.
Delivering a special sermon Most Venerable Tibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero emphasized that the path of development should be taken while protecting the unity.
Venerable Tibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero pointed out that many parties were behind the President's victory and they should always maintain unity among themselves. The Thero said Government should have a strong economic programme to prevent any unwanted incidents in the future and asked the President to give prominence to rural areas when developing the country.
The new President also received blessing from all other religious faiths as well.
