UNP MP arrested


United National Party MP Palitha Thewarapperuma was arrested today (January 21) after he surrendered to the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) in connection with the assault incident at Agalawatta on Sunday morning.

Police Spokesman Ajith Rohana said three others were arrested yesterday in connection with the assault, on Sunday, of SLFP Pradeshiya Sabha member Arumugam Pushpakumara in Agalawatte.

Yesterday, President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), N. K. Ilangakoon to appoint a team of Police Officers to investigate into the incident involving Kalutara District UNP Parliamentarian Thewarapperuma which took place at Matugama, Agalawatta area on Sunday (18).

Mr. Thewarapperuma and his supporters had allegedly assaulted the Pradeshiya Sabha member after he allegedly removed green flags and put up blue flags in Agalawatte town.
